Not much from EA excites me. I've played Quake 2-4, and this new quake game is essentially a remake of quake 3 arena so I'm not interested. Prey was not the game I was hoping for. I wanted cyberpunk, not a new Soma. I'm also feel that this new Prey game is a reboot on the IP and not a sequel or "Prey 2" by any means. Ubisoft tried too hard.
ReplyDeleteEA had a real bummer of a press briefing. It's sad when Visceral's Star Wars game was the most exciting thing and I a) don't have any great affinity for Star Wars and b) the game is probably 2 years off stuff.
DeleteThe Quake news was a bummer. PC only and I agree, it looks very Quake 3. Not for me.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Prey, given how much I know you care about it. Unlike you though, I'm tentatively excited for the new Prey. For starters, I love SOMA. Secondly, CD Projekt Red is already going to deliver a stellar cyberpunk experience with Cyberpunk 2077. I would not have been mad if Prey had just been called something else, though, since it is an entirely different kind of game. IP names matter, though.
Ubisoft was just too long. Only once in a blue moon does a presser earn 2+ hours of length. For Honor looked cool, Eagle Flight looked like tons of fun, and I'd like to play the South Park games. But man was it hard to stay interested throughout their show.
What did you think of (in my opinion) the best two press conferences: Xbox and PlayStation?
I'm tentative about cyberpunk 2077, because it is based of the pen and paper cyberpunk 2020 which I had the opportunity to participate in a session of at a gaming convention near St. Louis a few years ago. I wasn't all that impressed. It could still be a great game but I won't be surprised if I'm disappointed.
DeleteI think the xbox presentation was well done, with the exception of a few quirks (More xbox exclusive games! . . . which are also for windows 10 *mumble mumble*). It felt odd seeing a FFXV demo at the xbox presser, though it makes sense since its a multi platform game. I've lost all interest in recore. And then there was Halo Wars 2 which might just kill off the RTS Genre because I have zero faith in it.
Sony presser was also well done, without the quirks. Detroit: beyond human stands out to me. I'd buy a ps4 to play that. I didn't mind what I saw from infinite warfare. Not sure why all the hate for it in fact. Also, did you not like the flashback to attacking the giant mechanical crab's weakpoint for massive damage? I laughed. You have no sense of humor. 10 year anniversary too. The demo devs are probably crying inside. Poor Horizon demo devs.
